I does not seem like a year ago when I was last on the Algarve and here we are again !
Another great Painting Holiday on the Algarve ! Oct 2016
When I was last out in Portugal with Matt and Gill of Alpha Painting Holidays we spent some time in Caldas da Monchique a small village up in the mountains and were so taken with it that we used the venue as our base for this years painting week .
On our first day we all got together and painted a few scenes in and around the village taking in all the sights and sounds of this lovely place.
Our first day out and we headed for the coast around Lagos to the wonderfully multi coloured coastline of Praia da Camilo. It wasn't the easiest place to get us all in to paint on the cliff tops but there were some really striking results none the less.
Lunch at the restaurant just behind us then off to Lagos itself for the afternoon session. We managed to find some shade which was very welcome after the scorching morning's work.
Mid week I decided to do an evening demo around the courtyard in Caldas where I caught a rather intriguing view of the steps leading up to the road. So after dinner I set up in the courtyard and proceeded to paint this view with the aid of a few torch lights trained on the paper ! You never can tell how these paintings will turn out especially as you cant really see the colours correctly but I was quite pleased with the result considering !
This years trip to Praia da Luz was a sunnier affair and we didn't get the sea mist like last year when it came in and all but obliterated the scene in front of us.
This was a quick demo I did of the rocks and the sea spray from our painting site on the sea front.
We started the week in Caldas so it was fitting we ended it in this lovely village. We had lunch in the local Tapas bar in the village then finished off our sketches before dinner.
On the Saturday we had a mini exhib in Caldas and I did a demo and held a workshop where we all painted a view of the stacks at Camilo.
A nice way to finish off the week.
Next Year's Overseas Painting Holiday with Alpha will be 'Painting beautiful French villages and the stunning scenery of Provence' 2 - 9th Sept 2017.
What promises to be a really exciting painting venue !
